Chad Hamlin continues to showcase his creative talents with his unique brand of bizarre cartoon music known as LooNurGooSe. Weave Your Spell radiates a slightly dark fairytale like vibe and was inspired by Damon Petrie’s novel titled Wishers Island.
Weave Your Spell wouldn’t have been possible without Damon Petrie’s amazing novel titled Wishers Island. I had never considered creating a theme song for an animated movie, but Damon motivated and encouraged me to think outside of the box and look at the bigger picture within the entertainment industry.
My thanks goes out to Damon for allowing me this wonderful opportunity to intertwine our creative artistic fates.
Damon Petrie's novel, Wishers Island weaves a powerful tale about a little boy’s life and death struggle with leukemia and how he copes with the experience as he lie on his death bed. As he drifts in and out of a fantasy realm brought on by a story told to him by his Grandfather, he ‘dreams’ he visits a world known as Wishers Island. In this mystic place he encounters colorful characters that take him on a heartfelt quest to a special magical well where wishes can come true.
I couldn’t help but to envision this story for it’s enormous potential as an animated movie. After finishing the book I shared my thoughts with Damon and he explained to me that he also envisioned the animation concept and had just finished the screenplay that he was going to start shopping around to different studios. Although Damon confessed he had one studio in particular that he thought would be absolutely perfect for staying true to his vision for the movie adaptation.
Damon wrote a few pages of lyric ideas and asked me if I would be willing to create a theme song to support his screenplay. A few weeks went by while I wrote, recorded, and produced what I ended up titling Weave Your Spell.
This little project couldn’t have come at a better time, because I just released the element66 album titled Voodoo Doll and I was ready to get to work on a new LooNurGooSe project.
If all goes well, Damon’s screenplay will get pickled up and Weave Your Spell will end up on the Wishers Island movie sound track. And if his screenplay doesn’t sell, at least I created a fun new LooNurGooSe song.
Damon Petrie is generously donating a percentage of the proceeds made from sales of his Wishers Island novel to a Leukemia Foundation. Find out more about Damon and his books on Amazon or check him out on Facebook.
